Yes just as the above title, what is there to say after almost NINE months of inactivity of my Fotopages & of course many many things happened during that period.
Sadly I have to start with the death of my best friend of 43 years - Mohamad Zubir Zainal Abidin aka Zoob the Joob drowned on 22nd July 2007 at Port Dickson....we were doing our first Triathlon together (funnily enough we both promised to start serious training for the PD triathlon 2007 after the Powerman 2006 in Lumut) ....as usual he was serious & I was playing around especially during our swimming training sessions at his Club....anyway I enjoyed the nasi lemak at the Club!
That's one of the reasons he was so successful in his corporate life where he would give his everything to achieve the target.......knew him since beginning of secondary schooling at MBS KL (of course he was in the best class whilst your sincerely was in the last class!) Both of us plus another twelve (I think...anyway it was a record number from one school) went to the Royal Military College, Sungei Besi in 1967 & we were together in the UK for a number of years after that.....he came back earlier & we kept in touch quite often.
Both of our parents knew each other very well & I can say that we were closer to each other than our own siblings......of course thats due to the similar activities where both of us enjoyed doing TOGETHER.....we used to meet up, sometimes unplanned, at "certain" establishments in KL where I must say that both of us were quite well-known (those days lah! Corporate mahhh) & sang our hearts out especially our favourite song "Don't let the Sun go down on me" by Elton John & George Micheal.....We always sing that in the public area (ahemmm...for those who are familiar with these establishments) & u could imagine the response we got!
Of course there were many many things we did together which could not be disclosed and shall remain in my mind till the day I go.......no regrets just good memories
In fact, the term of "Kutuberahag" (shortened to "Kutu") which represents our Kelas 67 (RMC Intake of 1967), was coined by Zoob....rationale = we are humble enough to accept even such a name because it means "street urchins or gangsters"...we became a serious force in 1998 & we were in the midst of celebrating our 40th Anniversary of Kelas 67 this year......and he has to "go"
I knew that he was so happy when I started cycling in early 2006 so that we could be much closer....which we did & since then we were in contact by phone and/or email at least ONCE a day without fail.....we had our own "language" where there are certain words where only we understand!
He told me this story about early this year....I commented that his father was very serious-looking especially during his last years of life & he told me that apparently his father's best friend died in his arms.....Zoob's comment was "Ya lah, best friend macam kita lah.......hang jangan buat macam tu kat aku".........didn't realise that it was the other way round.
Enough said for now.....I don't apologise for the rambling above because it is my right....
Good Bye my friend Zoob the Joob.......
Sahabat yang telah mendahului kita
empat dekad pantas berlalu,
detik pertama kita bersua,
dikau membawa jenaka mu,
riuh rendah empat sains dua...
dikau berbakat bak seniman,
dengan lagu dan irama mu,
dikau senang berteman taulan,
kekawan gumbira bersama mu...
tidak semudah di lupakan,
pesta remaja di rumah mu,
sudah tentu jadi ingatan,
budi baik keluarga mu...
bersama sama pula merantau,
nun jauh di seberang benua,
sungguh gumbira hati perantau,
bila kawan menyambut nya tiba...
di tanah air bersama mu,
bersama berjuang satu ikatan,
berbasikal di hujung minggu,
mengeratkan lagi persahabatan...
bila diri terlantar sendiri,
ramai taulan menghantar simpati,
tapi bila ku imbas kembali,
hanya dikau berada di sisi...
hidup mati jodoh dan rezeki,
semuanya di tangan yang satu,
takdir degupan jantung terhenti,
dikau yang pertama di samping ku...
sungguh tidak ku sangka sangka,
dikau pula yang mendahului,
walau pun diri ini yang terasa,
seperti mati hidup kembali...
dunia hanya sementara,
akhirat juga yang kekal abadi,
semoga dikau di terima,
bersama sama yang di redhai...
pengakhir kata sahabat ku,
hanya do'a jadi bekalan,
budi mu terpahat di hati ku,
selamat jalan pahlawan ...
... hingga ketemu semula

The fifth Powerman Malaysia was held in Lumut,Perak on 11th November 2006 where I entered under Powerman Individual (Long Distance) section doing the 10km RUN -60km BIKE- 10km RUN.
The race number issued to me was 277 under Men section Age group 50-59 years old where there were only twenty-six participants (including Zubir Zainal aka Zoob the Joob and our junior in RMC, OP Ahmad Jauhari Yahya -year 70)
The race started at 1300hrs & it was very very hot but it started to rain while we were cycling...very scary & the rain stopped after about an hour.
I realised that I missed the 5 hour deadline just as I passed the Lumut Yacht Club but still carried on & finished the race...... the organisors still gave me a Finisher Medal & a Finisher Tee-Shirt - finished the race, whatttt!
Statistics
I completed the race in 5hrs 8mins (218/246) , Zoob my buddy completed his in 4hrs 40mins (170/246) & well done brudder! & just to give a base line, the champion Benny Vanssteeland from Belgium did it in 2hrs 45mins
Ahmad Jauhari did it in 4hrs 15mins (118/246)...no choice because being a junior budak boy (at 52years old) he got to beat both of us!
Observations
1. All the ladies overtook me except for a 62 year old lady by the name of Patsy.
2. Praying for a hot day so that everybody will be tired but unfortunately I was more tired!
3. Too relaxed on the first 10km (1hr 14mins) plus pushed too much in the earlier stages of biking resulting in a feeling of cramp creeping up my left calf so had to cycle with one leg for about half an hour & surprisingly felt quite strong in the last 10km run...must remember to "listen" to your body.
4. The only consolation was that, there were 13 participants who did not complete the race & there were a lot of younger people behind me!
5. I must really lose some more weight because the Michelin Man look is still there! Unfortunately, still enjoy my nasi lemak & roti canai after a good bike session.
I must thank my official photograher ,Julia (Mrs Zoob) for being very patient! Also must thank my room mate "youngman" Rahim becos without him,I would be very "naugthy" & may not be able to make it to the race the next day!
Conclusion = I am not a good Runner, I am not a good cyclist, I am not a good swimmer so I must be a TRIATHLETE lah !
Therefore, must start training from now for 2007 & who knows possibily try for Ironman in 2008?
Most important,I really enjoy every minute of it with great company esp Zoob & family plus made a lot of new friends.

Cycling Escapade
|

As I said in my earlier message on cycling, where it gets crazier & crazier!
I only dare to show the first photos taken in May 2006 now
After that there is no stopping - Malakoff Duathalon in July 2006, Trolak/Ipoh/Cameron Highlands on 31st August till 2nd September 2006
Of course also did the "mother of all climb" on 29th September 2006 where sixteen mad cyclists (namely Lim Ee Van,Rahim Old Man, Haidar "Don",Zabil, Amir, Azmar the all-rounder,Bacin,May Sun,Caroline,Adilah,Ben & Vicky,Steve plus a few others whom I am not familiar with) cycled up Genting Highlands from Genting Sempah starting at 2230hrs & reached up there at around 0200hrs & back down again reaching Genting Sempah around 0440hrs
It was wet, cold & windy plus we were fasting in the daytime BUT enjoyed every minute of it .....maybe we could not see most parts of the road and as they say,WHAT YOU DONT SEE,YOU DONT CARE!

Goodbye Ipoh
|
|
The pictures were taken almost a year ago when we decided to sell the house in Ipoh & moved to Kuala Lumpur - Hijrah and many things have happened since then albeit all for the better....sold it on 31st January 2006 and thats the end of my era in Ipoh after almost 25 years!
Yes, "Hijrah" is great & it gives a new outlook towards life especially when you are in the autumn of your life
Now looking forward to a new life in the city of Kuala Lumpur at least for another 25 years!

First Cycling Competition - Malakoff Duathalon
|
|
It may seem a little bit strange how I started cycling when I won my first bike (a Proton Blaze mountain bike) as a lucky draw prize on 10th March 2006 ...I was very sure that the draw was "fixed" by Amir Pujangga & even more surprising when I won a Proton T-Bolt mountain bike as a an NTP (Nearest to the Pin) prize at an OPA Golf game in Johore on 1st April 2006 - April's Fool ? So since that day, there's no turning back! Got a Proton T-Sprint Road bike on 6th April 2006 & that's it...at least hitting 120km per week!
Now I caught the cycling bug & have been the "clown" since serious cycling on 23rd March 2006 till now...frankly dare not put up photos of cycling for quite sometime because a bit worried that I would give it up after a few months!
Well, after buying a new Wilier Triestina Imperiale (Italian) priced at Ringgit five figures , it has become a serious affair! So have to enter a serious cycling competition & that is the Malakoff Duathalon where you got to RUN 10km, CYCLE 50km & RUN 5km on 30th July 2006 at Putrajaya......crazy eh at 54 yrs old!
Had a great time at the Duathalon as Competitor number 248 Category 50yrs-59 yrs (only 19 of us) = Results?
Completed the Race in 4 hours 11 mins,so managed to get the Finisher's medal & got number 193/228 & also 16/19 for Age category (mind u......two fellows in my age category ended their race in an ambulance )
Not bad for a first try at 54 years old!

RMC Vs Rest of the World
|
|
My senior OP Azman Mahmood decided to organise & also generously sponsor a golf game at Bukit Beruntong GC in the morning of 4th May 2006.
There were 24 players consisting of 12 from each team....great comradeship & fellowship... But RMC lost to the Rest of the World
Now Azman got no choice but got to arrange & sponsor for a MONTHLY game in order for RMC to win 0)
